Restoration of Écureuil d’Aquitaine II

The IMOCA 60 Écureuil d´Aquitaine II, the iconic yacht that propelled Titouan Lamazou to victory in the inaugural Vendée Globe in 1990, has undergone a thorough restoration at Port
Bourgenay by our team. This historic vessel, renowned as the «Everest of the Seas», has been meticulously refurbished with the goal of participating in commemorative events during the Vendée Globe 2024.

Construction Process:

Deck Layout Modification: The deck layout was updated to optimize the yacht´s rigging and maneuvering systems. Our chief engineer designed and fabricated custom molds to ensure precise and functional adjustments, preserving the essence of the original design while enhancing the yacht's ergonomics and performance.

Deck Panel Repair: Damaged panels were replaced and repaired. Each carbon fiber panel was meticulously cut and fitted to ensure structural integrity and a flawless finish.

Mast Base Repair: This task was performed with precision to ensure the mast’s strength and stability. It involved the replacement of damaged components and the optimization of the system to withstand the yachts demands.

Cabin Panels and Opening Flanks: New panels were manufactured for the cabin, and adjustments were made to the side sections with openings. These panels were designed to improve the yacht´s functionality and aesthetic appeal, ensuring a perfect fit and harmonious
integration with the existing design.

Bow Repair: The bow repair involved creating accurate molds and replacing damaged parts. This process restored the bow´s original shape and reinforced its structure to withstand challenging marine conditions.

Anchor Locker: New panels and covers for the anchor locker were fabricated and installed, ensuring seamless integration with the rest of the yacht. This repair enhanced the functionality of the anchoring system and ensured its durability for future outings.

With the restoration completed and Écureuil d´Aquitaine II prepared for new adventures, the project stands as a testament to our commitment and passion for preserving the Vendée Globe legacy. Through a meticulous restoration and modernization process, we have ensured that this historic yacht remains a significant piece of maritime history.
