Mast Reinforcement For Initiatives Coeur

For this project, we focused on reinforcing the mast chainplates in line with Imoca class technical guidelines, ensuring reliability at critical load-bearing points. A team of two specialized composite technicians carried out the work over six days, bringing their extensive experience to ensure flawless execution.

The process began by preparing the surfaces, removing paint from the affected areas, and priming the substrate for precise lamination. Dry carbon fiber patches were applied wet onto the chainplates in two stages, allowing for optimal integration of the reinforcement with the mast structure. The entire procedure was performed under vacuum to guarantee maximum adhesion of the composite layers. Toughened epoxy resin was used to securely bond the chainplate cups.

After curing, the laminations were finely sanded and cleaned, leaving the mast ready for its final finish. This meticulous approach, fully aligned with Imoca standards, ensures that the mast not only maintains its structural integrity but also enhances the boat’s performance, providing the reliability needed to push limits in offshore racing.
